The Notion
"Romeo and Juliet transposed to New York City, 1957. The Montagues and Capulets are two gangs, the Jets (white) and the Sharks (Puerto Rican). The lovers are Tony (Romeo), a former member of the Jets, and Maria (Juliet), the sister of Bernardo (Paris), leader of the Sharks. Riff (Mercutio) is the leader of the Jets and Tony's best friend."
